Easy Tuiles in 10mins – GBBO technical bake 5

No concentric circles or dipping of chocolate, just the most simple and effective tuiles recipe there is. Prepare for burnt fingers though. There were more of these, but they became a little too closely acquainted with my floor.

Pringles? No, vanilla tuiles

Easy Tuiles in 10 minutes
(with help from BBC Food)

2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
85g plain flour
100g caster sugar

Put all ingredients into a bowl and mix into a paste.
Heat oven to 180C/ 350F and line trays with baking parchment. Ideally lots of individual squares the size of your tuile when flat (abut 7cm across).
Spoon 1 level teaspoon of mixture onto the parchment and then use the back of the spoon to smear out into a circle.
Repeat until you run out of mixture or space.
Bake for about 5mins until turning golden.
Take out of the oven and while warm and bend over a rolling pin (hence burnt fingers). If they feel too hard, pop back in the oven to get soft again.

    you make them sound so much easier than the GBBO bakers made it look…..I might give them a go after all! they look great…

      I didn’t use a template, certainly – though mine weren’t as regular either…

      I reckon they made an alright job of it in the end! Can’t remember if it was Paul or Mary who said “you should be proud of that lot” when they came out 😀

    gosh you make them seem so easy to make! they look like biscuit pringles! perfection! i bet they had a lovely crisp sound when you bit into them and they looked evenly baked too!

    They look beautiful, I agree about the burnt fingers. I think adding butter makes them richer as you said, mine reminded me of those cigar shaped biscuits that are always by the tills in M&S (I can’t remember what they call them). The GBBO ones didn’t even use flour according to the narration!

    Oh how pretty! How many do those quantities make? I’m thinking it might be an idea to save the cardboard rolls from kitchen paper so you have lots of moulds to use when you make a big batch of these! Well done, they look beautiful!
