BFG Ice Lollies
One of the great things about blogger challenges like Bloggers Scream For Ice Cream and We Should Cocoa is that they make me try things I’d never normally think to do. I wanted to enter both these challenges but I knew I didn’t have much time so I thought I’d try to combine the two. This month, guest host Janice has set the task of cherries and chocolate, while Kavey has asked us to make ice lollies.
I spotted some clear cherryade in the super market and I knew that I had some super chocolatey cake balls in the freezer ready to make cake pops, so I thought I’d see what I could concoct. I was trying to explain what I had made to a couple of o recently and I realise it sounds pretty grim. It’s actually a refreshing version of much creamier choc-cherry icecreams. Sadly though the cherryade didn’t taste as strong once frozen, so maybe a little
Kirsch <late edit> having tried Supercherry’s Visciolata Cherry wine at Foodie fest, which is very very good, I’m wishing I’d found it before this challenge. Maybe I could have justified buying some then. ) would go down well if making them again (though to be honest, I’d prefer the icecream version).
Since chocolate and cherry is pretty much Black Forest gateaux, but these are far too childish to merit that name, I’m calling them BFG lollys.
BFG Ice Lollies
1 bottle of cherryade
3 chocolate muffins - to make cake balls
a handful of cherries, halved and stoned
lollipop mould (I got mine from Asda for £1)
Crumble the muffins, then squeeze the crumbs together into a sphere small enough to fit in the lolly mould, just like a cake pop. You could do this in advance and freeze them – I have a load in my freezer I wanted to use up.
Spike a cakeball or two on each lolly stick
Put half a cherry in the bottom of each lolly, then pour a little cherryade in allowing for liquid displacement from the cakepops, put the lolly stick in and add a couple more cherry halves above it.
Freeze. Enjoy the cherryade lollipop, with a cheeky cake centre which will be nicely defrosting by the time you reach it!
